Dream Astrograph - 24" custom cellular secondary blank, designed by Dream's President, Shane Santi.

To the left is a photograph of three 7.75" cellular secondary blank for the 24" f3.5 Dream Astrograph and four 5.75" cellular secondaries for the 16" f3.75 Dream Astrograph.

Six inch calipers were included for scale.

To the right is a photograph of the 7.75" cellular secondary showing it's polished surface, prior to receiving it's coating.

The mirror is 2.7 lbs. A solid optic of the same dimensions and shape would weight 7.2 lbs.

Dream is combining the benefits of aerospace composites (specifically carbon fiber skins over a sandwich core) in the telescope structure with open-backed cellular mirrors.

Such telescopes require lower payload mounts. Mounts that are substantially less expensive in: initial cost, shipping cost, installation costs, maintenance, much more readily available on the market, etc.. The 24" Dream Astrograph, for example, can be carried by the Paramount ME German Equatorial Mount.

The thermal and mechanical benefits of lighter, stiffer systems are enormous.
